JOB TITLE: Senior RF Design Engineer         REPORTING TO:E-Band Programme Manager

PURPOSE OF ROLE:
To design and verify RF and microwave circuits and sub-systems to 10GHz, ensuring successful introduction to high-volume production.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

(including financial and people responsibilities)
Deliver fully verified RF designs compliant with defined performance, schedule and cost constraints.
Document designs and design decisions in a format which stands up to scrutiny by internal peers, customers and external auditors.
Ensure designs are suitable for high-volume manufacture, including a tolerance analysis in accordance with design handbook requirements and due consideration of design-for-manufacture principles.
Prepare and review tollgate documentation, ensuring compliance with NPI procedure is achieved and that reports are progressed and updated throughout the project.
Pro-actively participate in design reviews and initiate design reviews in order to mitigate risk where appropriate.
Regularly and clearly report status and progress of assigned work packages – including due consideration of performance, cost and schedule requirements.

 

MAIN TASKS:
RF and microwave circuit design and development to 10GHz.
Design of RF receiver circuits incorporating LNAs, mixers, demodulators, synthesisers, filters, attenuators.
Design of RF transmitter circuits incorporating power amplifiers, mixers, modulators, synthesisers, filters, attenuators, detectors.
Compilation and checking of design documentation, design logbooks, data packs, peer review etc. in preparation for design release and production.
Pro-actively participate in design reviews and liase regularly and effectively with other departments to communicate status / risks.
Support the New Product Introduction for assigned projects in conjunction with manufacturing personnel.
Problem solving and fault diagnosis of manufactured products during product introduction.
Undertake all aspects of design verification and validation including preparation of test specifications, test reports and reliability testing / evaluation.
Maintain an up to date, comprehensive design compliance matrix, referencing robust evidence of compliance data for assigned designs.

>5 years RF and microwave design experience.
Experience in design and development of RF and microwave circuits up to 10 GHz.
Experience in design of transmitter and receiver circuits from RF to base-band.
Experience in design of synthesisers for low phase noise Local Oscillators.
Solid working knowledge of PCB layout techniques for RF and microwave circuits, using soft substrates.
Experience using RF and microwave EDA tools.

Understanding of digital communication system modulation techniques, frequency plans and link budgets.
Experience in general analogue design, including power supplies.
Experience in a team leadership position.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

 

 

 

Ability to simulate and analyse RF and microwave line-ups and elements.
Excellent measurement skills using microwave test equipment.
Able to generate technical reports and make presentations.
Knowledge and experience of design for high volume manufacture.

Experience with one or more of the following:
Microwave Office, ADS, VSS, Simulink, Matlab, AutoCAD, HFSS, EMPro.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and supplier processes.

EDUCATION/
QUALIFICATIONS

 

BEng / BSc in Electronic Engineering or related discipline (2.i or higher).

MSc / MEng / PhD in Electronic Engineering or related discipline with specialisation in RF and microwave electronics
