JOB TITLE: Process Engineer REPORTING TO: Process Engineering Manager
LOCATION: Filtronic Broadband Ltd, Newton Aycliffe PURPOSE OF ROLE:
The main purpose of this role is to develop, set-up, maintain and refine the processes, equipment, materials and process controls concerned with all aspects of electronics assembly.
This role will be particularly focussed on Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and associated processes, Stencil printing of solder, solder / adhesive dispense, automatic component pick and place, solder reflow, AOI and X-ray inspection.
Required to program and troubleshoot precision high volume automated die attach and wire bonding assembly equipment and to understand all the processes associated, auto and manual build, for both the equipment and the product.
Will need a detailed understanding of the design constraints, inspection standards, materials and processes associated with the automated assembly of electronic circuits.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
To be responsible for developing, introducing and supporting processes in order to support Filtronic manufacturing and NPI, and to specifically responsible for the delivery of such projects as are necessary to achieve Filtronic Broadband targets.
JOB CONTENT/MAIN TASKS:
Have a clear understanding of all of the processes within the manufacturing area.
Provide high-level technical support regarding the process technology concerned with the manufacture of microwave frequency modules and sub-assemblies.
Implement, troubleshoot and maintain the processes for new and existing products.
Produce documentation in a timely manner and to the agreed standard for all levels of processes involved in the production of modules and assemblies.
Liase with equipment suppliers regarding machinery issues for both automated and manual equipment. Work with equipment manufacturers to set-up new applications and processes.
Work with design engineers and be able to contribute to the design methodology pre-manufacture of product and to improve existing products for a volume-manufacturing environment.
Work with external customers to implement their design into our manufacturing processes.
Work with suppliers to agree manufacturing requirements and standards and then to ensure supplied product is to the required standard and their processes are capable of meeting agreed standard.
Provide outline assembly design rules through liaison with the design engineering team.
Design and procure tooling, jigs and fixtures for new and existing products and processes.
Possibility of travel abroad for training and supplier evaluation.

Person Spec
Minimum of 3 years experience within electronics manufacturing environment
Understanding and Implementation of lean manufacturing principles
Experience in problem solving and team / project implementation
Experience of interface with suppliers and customers
New product introduction experience
Process Engineer within RF electronic production / CEM manufacturing organisation
Knowledge of military hybrid electronics assembly processes and standards
Understanding of PCB assembly processes and technology
Understanding and implementation of preventative maintenance system and requirements
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Detailed knowledge and understanding of die attach, wire bonding and SMT build processes to industry standards MIL-STD-883 and IPC 600 and 610
Knowledge & implementation of Quality tools. PFMEA, SPC, Cause & effect, 8D reporting, Poka-yoke
Knowledge of ISO 9001:2008
Reporting/developing process controls, performance measures and targets
Preferred knowledge of electronics, RF Components/systems/products within Telecom market sector
Understanding of PCB assembly processes and technology
Able to review design proposals and make recommendations with regard to design for manufacture
